International Groups of Mayors to Team up on Climate

By ExchangeMonitor

Two of the largest city-led climate change and energy initiatives in the world, the European Union Covenant of Mayors and the Compact of Mayors, announced Wednesday they are teaming up to create the largest global coalition of cities committed to climate leadership. The new group, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy, will be comprised of 7,100 cities from 119 countries and six continents, according to a press release.

“Today, the world’s cities are uniting their efforts to fight climate change behind a single global organization, something that has never before happened,” Michael Bloomberg, U.N. Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change and former New York City mayor, who will co-chair the new entity, said in the release.
