Innovative wins $8.3M contract to handle workers comp at DOE Hanford Site

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state has awarded an $8.3 million contract to California-based Innovative Claim Solutions to run the workers compensation processing program at the nuclear cleanup site.

DOE procurement managers at Hanford said in a Monday press release that Innovative Claims has won a potential five-year contract to be the new third-party administrator of processing the site’s workers comp claims.

Innovative Claim Solutions will succeed incumbent Penser North America. Penser was awarded its current $4.6-million contract in July 2019. The current Penser contact is set to expire Sept. 30.

A 60-day transition to the new contractor will begin Aug. 1, and run through Sept. 30, DOE said.

The new deal is worth $8.3 million over five years if all options are picked up. There is a one-year base followed by four one-year options for DOE, according to the agency press release.

The one-year base year period runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2025, coinciding with the 2025 fiscal year. The contract will run through Sept. 30, 2029 if DOE picks up all the options.

According to DOE, the contractor works closely with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries to process all claims and provide all staff, equipment, materials and expertise to do the work.
