Donald Trump was to be sworn in today, Jan. 20, 2017, as the 45th president of the United States.
So far, we have only hints about his plans for the Energy Department’s nuclear complex.
A day before the inauguration, incoming Energy Secretary Rick Perry would not commit to budget infusions for legacy nuclear cleanup projects, or to keeping incumbent leaders of the National Nuclear Security Administration around for the first 100 days.
Perry signaled support for both long-term and interim storage of spent nuclear fuel from commercial power plants, but would commit to either reopening or permanently shuttering Yucca Mountain.
