The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency visited Belarus and its nuclear power plant in Ostrovets Tuesday to conduct meetings, the agency said in a press release.
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), traveled with a team of experts to assess the situation and ensure “nuclear safety and security in the region,” the release said.
According to the official website for Aleksandr Lukashenko, president of the Republic of Belarus, Grossi met with Lukashenko in Minsk Tuesday. Lukashenko also said in a statement to students in Minsk that nuclear weapons would be used against NATO if it attacked Russia or Belarus, according to a press release on the country’s official website.
“Mark my words: an attack against Belarus will trigger World War Three,” Lukashenko said in the press release.
The IAEA conducted an operational safety review of the Belarussian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets in 2021. The team then said that the plant should continue improving its “integrated management system,” continue enhancing fire protection and prevention, and continue improving the storage and usage of chemicals and its safety.
