The House passed legislation this week that would extend the current U.S. civil nuclear agreement with South Korea until March 2016, two years beyond its current expiration date in March 2014. The bill passed late Tuesday by voice vote. The Obama Administration has sought the simple two-year extension to the agreement to give it time to work out technical issues before the current agreement expires. Of particular concern has been the issue of advanced consent for enrichment and reprocessing technologies, which South Korea has expressed interest in developing.
