Next week, the House Energy and Commerce energy subcommittee on will hold another hearing on modernizing the Department of Energy, this time with a focus on U.S. nuclear infrastructure, the committee announced Tuesday.
The hearing, “DOE Modernization: Advancing the Economic and National Security Benefits of America’s Nuclear Infrastructure,” is on the slate for 10 a.m Feb. 6, according to a note published online.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has policy jurisdiction over the Department of Energy and is in charge of writing authorization bills for that agency and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission: the regulator for U.S. civilian nuclear power and waste.
At deadline Tuesday for Weapons Complex Morning Briefing, the panel had not released a witness list for the hearing.
The first E&C energy subcommittee hearing in its DOE modernization series was held on Jan. 9 and addressed “Advancing DOE’s Mission for National, Economic, and Energy Security of the United States.” Witnesses at that session included Deputy Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette and then-National Nuclear Security Administration chief Frank Klotz, who has since retired.
