The House Armed Services Strategic Forces subcommittee will hear from Gen. Anthony Cotton, commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, and others on the country’s strategic forces posture for fiscal 2026.
Cotton, the military’s top uniformed nuclear official, is one of four witnesses to testify Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time in Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2118.
Strategic Command operates the long-range U.S. nuclear deterrent, encompassing intercontinental ballistic missiles, missile-carrying submarines and nuclear-armed aircraft. All of these vessels are in the middle of long-term modernization programs to deliver nuclear payloads created and manufactured by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Wednesday’s hearing will be focused on the Pentagon’s fiscal 2026 budget request for its programs, but will likely touch on its expectations for its nuclear weapons programs and for NNSA.
