The House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee will offer the first glimpse of Congress’ Fiscal Year 2013 priorities for the National Nuclear Security Administration and Department of Energy later this month as it will mark up its portion of the FY 2013 Defense Authorization Act at 1:30 p.m. April 26. The Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, which has oversight of the NNSA’s nonproliferation activities, will mark up its version of the bill at 3:30 p.m. the same day. As it did last year, the panels are expected to release text of the bill 24 hours before the markups take place. The full House Armed Services Committee will markup the complete version of the bill at 10 a.m. May 9. While the HASC subcommittees will be the first panels with jurisdiction of the NNSA and DOE to mark up the bill, the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee will be the last to hold a budget hearing next week. Strategic Command chief Gen. Robert Kehler, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs Madelyn Creedon, NNSA Administrator Tom D’Agostino, EM chief Dave Huizenga, and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Chairman Peter Winokur are slated to testify at the April 17 budget hearing.
