Hot off the Presses: July Breaks Temperature Records

By ExchangeMonitor

July 2016 was not just the hottest July on record, it was the hottest of any month on record, NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies said Tuesday. “It wasn’t by the widest of margins, but July 2016 was the warmest month since modern record keeping began in 1880,” said GISS Director Gavin Schmidt in a press release. “It appears almost a certainty that 2016 also will be the warmest year on record.” July broke the previous record for hottest month ever, set in July 2015, by .1 degrees Celsius.

The record also makes July the 10th consecutive month to set a monthly high-temperature record. The seasonal temperature cycle peaks in July, according to the release.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is scheduled to release its July temperature data on Thursday.
