Hinderstein is acting NNSA No. 2

By ExchangeMonitor

Corey Hinderstein became the acting principal deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration on Tuesday, the head of the agency told all hands Monday.

In an email, Jill Hruby, the administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said that “I have selected Corey Hinderstein to serve as Acting Principal Deputy Administrator (NA-2) for NNSA, effective Monday, May 6.”

Hinderstein is the NNSA’s full time deputy administrator for defense nuclear nonproliferation, a senate-confirmed post she has held since December 2021. She replaces, on an acting basis, Frank Rose, who left the NNSA at the end of April amid reported allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Also in the email announcing Hinderstein’s elevation, Hruby said that Wendin Smith is the NNSA’s new associate administrator for counterterrorism and counterproliferation. Smith replaces Jay Tilden who left NNSA in October to take a job in the Department of Energy’s Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence.
