The Hanford Site website for chemical vapors information has been expanded and given a new address, www.hanfordvapors.com, to make information easier to find. The website was launched in early June as part of the Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) internet pages to make more information publicly available about chemical vapors associated with waste held in Hanford’s underground tanks. In recent months about 53 Hanford workers have received medical evaluations for possible exposure to chemical vapors.
“I hope you will find the website to be convenient and straightforward,” WRPS President Mark Lindholm said in a message to employees. “Our goal is to help educate and inform those with concerns about the hazards we encounter as we continue our critical mission to safely and efficiently manage Hanford’s tank waste.”
The website includes maps showing locations where suspected chemical vapors have been reported, waste sampling data, frequently asked questions, and information on steps being taken to improve worker protection.
Hanford Sub Hits Safety Milestone
Dade Moeller, a safety and radiation protection firm recently acquired by NV5 Global, has surpassed a safety milestone of 2 million hours worked without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable injury. Reaching the milestone required nearly six years of incident-free work. Dade Moeller, based in Richland, Wa., serves as a Hanford Site subcontractor for Department of Energy contractors, recently providing safety and industrial hygiene support for Washington Closure Hanford and CH2M Plateau Remediation Co. It also is a preselected subcontractor for Mission Support Alliance, providing dosimetry services, and has been supporting development of a radiological program at the Waste Treatment Plant.
