Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS), the tank management contractor at the Hanford Site in Washington state, is seeking expressions of interest from potential subcontractors willing to manage secondary process waste from the Effluent Treatment Facility.
The facility, located in the 200 Area at Hanford, currently treats 28,000 gallons of wastewater each year from processing activities from groundwater projects, solid waste disposal facilities, and other cleanup operations. In removing radioactive and hazardous contaminants, the plant produces secondary waste.
Washington River Protection Solutions, which operates the ETF, prefers subcontractors to take possession of the waste in both brine and powder forms prior to treatment, transportation, and potential disposal.
The planned operational period for this expression of interest is from October 2021 through the end of September 2033. It was not clear if if WRPS is planning one subcontractor for the entire period. The tank manager said it is gearing up for operation of the Waste Treatment Plant at Hanford., which will result in expanded use of the ETF.
The ETF is owned by the Energy Department’s Office of River Protection. The expressions of interest are due by noon PT on Feb. 11 and should be sent to Procurement Specialist Christopher Franz, at [email protected], according to the notice published Tuesday on FedBizOpps.gov.
AECOM-led WRPS noted in the EOI material this is not an actual request for proposals. No schedule is listed for an RFP.
The contractor manages 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste in 177 tanks at Hanford. Last fall it received a one-year extension, worth about $629 million, added to its 10-year, $6.3 billion contract at Hanford. Washington River Protection Solutions is now scheduled to stay on through September 2019.
