It is set to be another sizzling hot week at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state with daytime high temperatures hitting the triple digits today through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service forecast for the area.
“Hot and dry conditions will continue into the midweek with breezy conditions elevating fire weather concerns today and Wednesday,” according to a Weather Service discussion of regional factors.
Smoke from fires across central Oregon, southeast and south central Washington will also affect many areas within the two states, the Weather Service goes on to say.
The fire danger at Hanford remains “extreme,” according to a website run for the DOE property by a Leidos-led site services contractor, however no employee advisories are posted due to the weather.
The normal July high temperatures for the Tri-Cities area of Washington state, where the former plutonium production complex is located, is 88 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the weather service. But the area has been roasting under daytime highs frequently hitting triple digits since late June.
