The Green Climate Fund this week is conducting a “readiness week” in South Korea aimed at helping nations prepare projects that could receive financial support from the program.
The meeting, which began Monday and continues through Friday, “will facilitate knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer learning, to develop country-driven projects and programmes that work towards low-carbon and climate-resilient development,” according to a GCF press release. ‘Participants will include the 13 national and regional entities that the GCF board has accredited for direct access and National Designated Authorities and Focal Points from 25 countries.”
The readiness week is primarily expected to produce preliminary country and organization work programs, which will feature top projects and associated action plans, the release says.
Participating nations have contributed billions of dollars to the financing program that operates under the auspices of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and distributes funds contributed by nations. The program expects to approve funding for $2.5 billion worth of work in 2016, according to earlier reporting.
