General Dynamics Shuffles Electric Boat and NASSCO Leadership

By ExchangeMonitor

General Dynamics [GD] has appointed Kevin Graney, president of GD National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), as president of GD Electric Boat (EB), effective Oct. 1. Concurrently, David Carver, NASSCO’s vice president and general manager of repair, is succeeding Graney as president of NASSCO, the company revealed Friday.

These moves come as Jeffrey Geiger, who has served as president of Electric Boat since 2013, is retiring on Sept. 30 after a 35-year long career with the company.

Graney started at Electric Boat in 1995 as a senior engineer for the Virginia-class attack submarine program, working his was up to becoming president of NASSCO in 2017.

“Kevin Graney’s leadership, nuclear propulsion expertise and proven track record with submarine and surface shipbuilding will be essential to Electric Boat as it expands operations to build both the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine and the next generation of Virginia-class attack submarines,” Robert Smith, executive vice president for GD Marine Systems, said in a statement.

Carver joined NASSCO in 1987 and reached his position as vice president in 2014. In that role, Carver has been responsible for production, engineering, purchasing, subcontracts administration, contracting and estimating of repair activities, the company said.

“With Dave Carver’s in-depth understanding of NASSCO, he will ensure that we continue to deliver on our strong backlog of new construction and repair for both the U.S. Navy and commercial customers,” Smith added.
