GemTech Nuclear Security Solutions said last week it has won a new professional and technical services contract with Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS), the management and operations contractor for the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas.
The company, a joint venture of small businesses GEM Technologies, CS Engineering, Strata-G, and Spectra Tech, will offer professional support to the two National Nuclear Security Administration sites that includes nuclear and criticality safety engineers, scientists, safeguards and security specialists, radiological control technicians, according to the announcement.
Subcontractors Navarro Research and Engineering, ABS Consulting, Tetra Tech, Enercon, and Paschal Solutions also support the company’s work, it said.
“GEM has been supporting Y-12 for more than 20 years and Pantex for the past two years. We are committed to providing reliable, safe, secure, quality, cost-effective solutions and we look forward to partnering with CNS for the next 5 years to support their mission requirements,” Michael Evans, managing partner of GemTech NSS, said in a statement.
Consolidated Nuclear Security spokesman Jason Bohne said by email that the technical services procurement “represents the continuation of a long-standing need at Y-12 for staff augmentation services, which can encompass a wide variety of fields from engineers to accountants to technical writers, and more.”
The contract features a one-year base term with four one-year options, he said.
Early last month CNS said it was more than halfway to its goal of hiring 1,150 employees in this fiscal year, which ends on Sept. 30. At that time, CNS had hired over 650 employees between Y-12 and Pantex to handle increased workloads. However, Bohne said the contract award is not part of CNS’ hiring push.
CNS did not release an updated progress figure for the hiring campaign.
