Former Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko will write a book on his time at the agency, to be released in 2014, according to an announcement yesterday. In a release posted to PublishersMarketplace April 17, Simon & Schuster announced they would publish the book, “Splitting the Atom,” being “an account of [Jaczko’s] controversial years as the top nuclear regulator and the challenges he encountered facing off with an industry entrenched in Washington politics, also examining the science behind nuclear power,” the announcement states. Jaczko resigned in May 2012 after the other four Commissioners wrote to the White House complaining of his occasionally vitriolic workplace demeanor and stifling attitude toward employees who contradicted his opinions. After several Congressional hearings and a damning IG report, Jaczko resigned and was quickly replaced by current Chairman Allison Macfarlane, who was sworn in last summer.
