Former EM Boss to Address South Carolina College Grads

By ExchangeMonitor

Monica Regalbuto, the Energy Department’s nuclear-cleanup chief during the last two years of the Barack Obama administration, will be the commencement speaker for this year’s graduation ceremony at the University of South Carolina Aiken on May 3.

The ceremony will take place at the USC Aiken Convocation Center, about 30 miles by road from the heart of DOE’s Savannah River Site campus.

Regalbuto remained with DOE as a senior technical adviser after stepping down from her job as the politically appointed assistant secretary for environmental management earlier this year just before Donald Trump was sworn in as president.

The university press release announcing the address includes the most detailed description yet of Regalbuto’s new position in the DOE civil service, calling her a “senior management advisor, providing support to senior DOE leaders in areas related to the development of programmatic and technical processes in support of the reduction of the environmental management program lifecycle cost.”

Regalbuto has spent more than 20 years, the bulk of her career, at DOE.
