An internal reorganization at Honeywell has placed the company’s work on four management and operations contracts with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) under the management of single retired Air Force colonel.
Effective July 16, the company’s aerospace segment put David “DJ” Johnson — a Honeywell man since retiring from a 23-year Air Force career in 2007 — in charge of the newly created Honeywell Federal Solutions business, which reports to Steve Slijepcevic, president of Honeywell Aerospace’s Mechanical Systems & Components business.
As vice president of Federal Solutions, Johnson is the point man for Honeywell’s management and operations contracts for the NNSA’s Kansas City National Security Campus in Kansas City, Mo.; Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M.; Nevada National Security Site near Las Vegas; and Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C.
Johnson “is also responsible for leading all business development activities to grow our presence in the USG [U.S. government] Management and Operations segment,” a Honeywell spokesperson said by email Monday, adding that the company’s “Department of Energy business is growing.”
Before creating Federal Solutions, Honeywell had separate managers for each of the NNSA sites on which it works, all of whom reported to Slijepcevic.
Honeywell subsidiaries Federal Manufacturing & Technologies and National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia manage the Kansas City plant and the Sandia National Laboratories, respectively. Honeywell is a partner on Nevada site manager Mission Support and Test Services and on Savannah River Site manager Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
During his Air Force career, Johnson worked mostly on space systems and programs, according to his LinkedIn page. He continued work on space systems at Honeywell Aerospace, where he also managed the segment’s aircraft engine components business.
