EXELON IN TALKS WITH USEC ON PADUCAH EXTENSION DEAL

By ExchangeMonitor

Exelon is working on a deal with USEC and the Department of Energy that could extend operations of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant until at least September this year. "Exelon is in discussions with USEC about uranium enrichment," Exelon spokeswoman Krista Lopykinski said in a written response yesterday, declining to comment further. USEC is currently running the plant under a deal with public utilities that is set to expire at the end of May, in which USEC is reenriching a portion of the Department’s stockpile of depleted uranium tails. Any agreement for an extension of enrichment operations at Paducah is expected to be finalized this week.
