Joel Spangenberg, a career fed who logged several years as a manager around the Department of Energy’s weapons complex, has retired from the federal government and accepted a post with the U.S. branch of a nuclear company based in the United Kingdom.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Vice President of U.S. Operations & Government Affairs at CORE POWER (UK) Ltd,” Spanenberg said Friday on his LinkedIn page. According to its webpage, Core Power is a developer of floating nuclear technology.
Spangenberg just retired this month as a senior executive service member of the federal government, with his most recent job being acting director of the Selective Service.
Spanenberg spent 20 months as director of operations for Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) before leaving in August 2022 and was also a manager in external affairs for the National Nuclear Security Administration for two and a years. He also worked in government affairs for the Naval Reactors office.
