EnergySolutions secures U.S. Department of Navy waste management contracts

By ExchangeMonitor

EnergySolutions announced in a Tuesday press release it was awarded two government contracts that assist in nuclear waste management across prominent Naval sites in the United States.

The Utah-based nuclear company was awarded new U.S. Navy Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts that support waste management operations across numerous Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program sites. IDIQ contracts are a type of government contract that allows for the purchase of an indefinite quantity of products or services over a fixed period.

The total value of the two contracts is $84.6 million, according to EnergySolutions.

One of the contracts is the Corporate Recycling and Volume Reduction Contract (CRVRC). Included in the CRVRC contract are processing activities for recycling and volume reduction at EnergySolutions’ Bear Creek Operations Processing and Recycling Facility in Oak Ridge, TN.

The other contract pertains to treatment and disposal of mixed low-level waste (MLLW) across all domestic nuclear naval shipyards at EnergySolution Clive Treatment and Disposal Facility, which is in Utah’s west desert. The MLLW contract began on April 6, according to a EnergySolutions spokesperson.
