EnergySolutions announced this week the closure of its Memphis Processing Facility, according to an internal announcement obtained by RW Monitor. EnergySolutions acquired the facility back in March when it purchased all of Studsvik’s U.S. operations in a deal worth $23 million. According to the announcement, the decision to close the facility came after an ‘extensive’ evaluation. “[]We have undertaken an extensive evaluation of potential process improvements, redundancies and synergies regarding our processing capabilities and have decided to consolidate the Channel Avenue work into other EnergySolutions facilities, resulting in the facility closure,” the announcement said. The closure will result in loss of 27 jobs over the next six months. The facility is planned for license termination in 2015. EnergySolutions did not return calls for comment this week.
