The Energy Department is seeking feedback from small business contractors who might be interested in cleaning up the F-Building Storage Yard (F-Yard) at the Separations Process Research Unit (SPRU) facility near Schenectady, N.Y.
The department’s Office of Environmental Management said Tuesday it is issuing a request for information (RFI)/sources sought, in order to connect with small businesses with the expertise to do such work.
The DOE is using the information request to help draft an upcoming procurement for environmental cleanup, including soil remediation, waste treatment and disposal. The work would also include a variance proposal at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) located in Niskayuna, N.Y.
The variance proposal would be filed with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection in order to win approval to ship certain mercury inorganic waste, and mixed waste containing liquid mercury inside certified metal drums, to the Nevada National Security Site.
The Energy Department is also interested in hearing “options for innovative approaches” for the work at the SPRU F-Yard, according to the DOE news release. Planning is still in the early phases and there is no performance work statement available yet.
Responses are due by Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. ET. Capability statements and questions pertaining to this announcement must be sent to Contracting Specialist Lenny Flagg, [email protected].
The Energy Department and prime contractor AECOM said recently the final phase of building demolition is finished at SPRU project in upstate New York.
