The Department of Energy’s Savannah River Operations Office is creating a new position of Associate Deputy Manager, which will be filled by Thomas Johnson, currently serving at DOE Office of Environmental Management headquarters. In his new role, announced this week, Johnson will report to DOE Savannah River Deputy Manager Terrel Spears. “This position will be responsible for managing the Savannah River Office of the Assistant Manager for Organizational Culture, Safety, and Quality Assurance Management; Office of the Field Chief Financial Officer; and the Office of the Assistant Manager for Mission Support,” DOE-SR Manager Dave Moody said in a Jan. 22 message to employees.

Johnson is currently serving as Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Acquisition and Project Management and among his previous  positions helped lead EM’s Recovery Act-funded efforts.  “He has more than 30 years of engineering and field management experience with the federal government. Mr. Johnson has extensive experience at EM headquarters and across multiple DOE sites, including over 14 years of experience at the Savannah River Site,” Moody said. DOE declined to elaborate this week on why the new position was created and said that there is no start date yet for Johnson.
