EM No. 2 Shrader heading toward Clean Energy, Robertson steps in

By Staff Reports

Todd Shrader, second in command at the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management since 2019, is leaving the cleanup office for a clean energy job at the agency, according to an internal email sent Monday.

Longtime DOE hand Candice Robertson will step in for Shrader on an acting basis, William (Ike) White, senior advisor for Environmental Management and the effective head of the office, said in a “dear colleague” email obtained by ExchangeMonitor.

Shrader will become deputy director of project manager for DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, an entity charged with carrying out renewable energy provisions of the $20-billion bipartisan infrastructure law signed in November.

Before becoming the No. 2 guy at Environmental Management, Shrader was the manager of DOE’s Carlsbad Field Office in New Mexico, overseeing the Waste isolation Pilot Plant.

Robertson, who has a combined 20 years experience at DOE and industry, is currently a senior advisor to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and deputy secretary David Turk.

No effective date has been set for the job changes yet, a DOE spokesperson said by email Monday afternoon. Environmental Management chief of staff Mike Nartker filled in for Shrader during a Monday morning session at the Waste Management Symposia in Phoenix. .
