Colin Jones, a senior official in the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management, is leaving DOE to take a corporate vice president position with CH2M Hill, WC Monitor has learned. Jones is stepping down as EM Chief of Staff effective March 13, acting Assistant Energy Secretary for EM Mark Whitney said in a message to employees late this week. Jones is leaving EM to join CH2M Hill as the contractor is believed to be part of a Fluor-led team bidding on the Idaho cleanup contract.
Jones joined EM in March 2010 after having served as Manager for Client and Stakeholder Relations at the Idaho National Laboratory. In his message this week, Whitney praised Jones’ tenure in DOE’s cleanup program. “During his time in EM, Colin has served in some key positions, including leading EM’s communications on the successes of the EM Recovery Act Program and his current role as the EM Chief of Staff. Colin’s knowledge of EM’s budget, policy and technical issues coupled with his positive relationships with Congressional offices, the media and key stakeholders has helped advance the EM cleanup mission,” Whitney said. Jones’ previous positions have also included serving as an energy policy fellow for Idaho Senator Mike Crapo (R) and former Idaho Senator Larry Craig (R).
