The Navy’s Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair at Groton, Conn., has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat an $8.7 million modification to the Ohio-class Replacement (OR) design contract originally awarded in December 2012, according to an announcement by the Defense Department yesterday. The modification will cover the procurement of the U.S./U.K. “E Fixture Robotic Cut” and Skid Transfer Systems, Cut and Containment Systems, and Rear Access Platforms, according to the announcement. “The contractor will be procuring hardware relating to the Integrated Tube and Hull Quad Pack construction E-Fixture in support of the Ohio Replacement Program,” the announcement states. Work is expected to be completed by June 2016. $4.4 million in Fiscal Year 2015 research and development and foreign military sales funding will be obligated at the time of award, and contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Navy did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the contract late yesterday afternoon.
