The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has awarded Parsons Government Services International a $16,937,062 task order for nuclear security work in Kiev, Ukraine, the Department of Defense announced last Friday. The task order for “Global Nuclear Security, Ukraine Nuclear Security and Readiness Program” falls under the Cooperative Threat Reduction Integrating Contract II, awarded in 2011 to Bechtel National, Parsons Global Services, Raytheon Technical Services, and URS Federal Services International, a part of AECOM, for “indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity” work. The announcement says two of the four contractors submitted bids for the task order. The base contract is scheduled for completion by Sept. 10, 2017; the award includes two 12-month option periods and 11 option tasks, but “total contract performance will not go beyond 48 months,” the announcement says.
The Cooperative Threat Reduction Program works “to dismantle and eliminate strategic weapons delivery systems and prevent the proliferation of weapons technology, materials, and expertise” through international partnerships, according to the contract award. The program’s activities, initially focused on former Soviet republics, include deactivating nuclear warheads and ensuring the security of chemical, biological, and fissile materials in partner countries.
