Vincent Ialenti, who leads the Department of Energy’s consent-based siting program, announced his resignation from the DOE in a post on his LinkedIn profile.
Ialenti worked in the DOE’s Office of Spent Fuel and High-Level Waste Disposition and was the federal manager of the agency’s Consent-Based Siting Consortia. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has worked for the agency since August 2022.
During his time with the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy, Ialenti served in multiple capacities. From Fall 2022 to Summer 2023, he was the federal manager for Outreach, Communications, and Stakeholders Engagement, according to his personal website.
Ialenti said he intends to stay involved with nuclear waste management after his resignation.
“While I’m stepping away from DOE, I’m not stepping away from the mission,” Ialenti said in the LinkedIn post. “Ensuring a safe, secure, efficient, and participatory approach to spent nuclear fuel management is as vital as ever. In the present circumstances, though, I believe I can contribute more effectively from outside government.”
Ialenti has a doctorate in social anthropology from Cornell University and a master’s of science in law, anthropology and society from the London School of Economics. He also serves as a research associate in California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt’s Department of Environmental Studies.
