DOE to host webinar about planned tests for spent fuel transports; extends deadline for test RFI

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy on Oct. 2 will host a webinar for people interested in shaping a request for information about conducting a series of violent tests on a container being developed to transport spent nuclear fuel.

DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy announced the webinar on Monday in a press release. On Friday, the office said it would extend the reply date for the request for information about the planned Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF) Package Performance Demonstration (PPD) to Oct. 31 from Sept. 30.

DOE released the request for information (RFI) about the planned tests in July. Senior members of the Nuclear Energy Office have since described the tests in a series of public presentations detailing the abuse the agency plans to inflict on the transport systems.

The webinar was scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The meeting “offers a valuable opportunity to understand the structure of the RFI and receive guidance on how to respond effectively,” DOE said in its invitation. “During the session, we will present an in-depth overview of the RFI, highlight key areas of interest, and discuss how interested parties can provide meaningful input to this important initiative.”
