DOE TO HOLD ALL HANDS MEETING TODAY TO DISCUSS HSS REORGANIZATION

By ExchangeMonitor
Senior Department of Energy officials are scheduled to hold an all-hands meeting this afternoon to outline details of a planned reorganization of the Office of Health, Safety and Security, Weapons Complex Monitor has learned. The meeting is set to be followed by the release of a detailed statement from the Secretary of Energy. Weapons Complex Morning Briefing first reported yesterday that the planned reorganization is set to entail splitting out oversight and enforcement capabilities from HSS, with oversight and enforcement to continue to report directly to the Secretary of Energy and to be headed by Glenn Podonsky, who currently serves as DOE’s Chief Health, Safety and Security Officer. The remainder of HSS, which would focus largely on safety and security policy, would be moved to report up through the Under Secretary of Management and Performance, rather than directly to the Secretary as is the current structure.
