Paul Murray, the Department of Energy’s deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and high-level waste, will address a community panel on the decommissioning of a retired Southern California Edison nuclear plant on Thursday, according to the electric utility.
Murray will discuss the federal spent fuel management program during a quarterly meeting of the San Onofre Community Engagement Panel, according to a June 6 press release from Southern California Edison’s parent, Edison International.
The volunteer panel is set up to support open communication between the company and the community on decommissioning issues.
In June 2013, Edison announced it was permanently retiring its two remaining reactor units at its San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in San Clemente, Calif. Some major components have already been removed for disposal.
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time at the Casino San Clemente. The meeting will also be streamed via Microsoft Teams.
