The Department of Energy is calling on its national laboratories to submit proposals for field research on new materials for capturing carbon from fossil fuel-fired power plants.
The research, according to the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory’s Discovery of Carbon Capture Substances and Systems Initiative (DOCCSS), would would focus on four “transformational material platform areas”: sorbent materials (for example, structured metal organic frameworks or other advanced materials); membrane materials (for example, mixed matrix and layered membranes or other advanced materials); non-aqueous solvents; and other materials.
“The multi-disciplinary research team will work closely with industrial research and stakeholder groups to develop transformational carbon capture material solutions,” says the DOE call for proposals, issued on Nov. 3. “The DOCCSS initiative will build upon the recent exponential growth in advanced computational capabilities at the national laboratories, the established toolset, and collaborative approaches in strategic partnerships with other lab centers of material development and universities.”
Proposals must be submitted no later than 11:59:59 p.m. on Dec. 5 via email to [email protected].
