Due to the government shutdown, the Department of Energy has cancelled Savannah River Site Citizen’s Advisory Board meetings on Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, and also decided not to attend a South Carolina Governor’s Nuclear Advisory Council meeting Thursday. “We have stopped all public events at this point because we are in a significantly lower work status than we were have previously when we were funded,” DOE Savannah River spokesman Jim Giusti said. However, he said that no decisions have been made on when furloughs may be needed for DOE Savannah River employees under the shutdown. “We are taking it day by day and making evaluations based on the amount of money we have,” he said.
