The Energy Department wants to reshuffle the bureaucracy of its Environmental Management office to have its nine field offices report to a new central office, according to an official DOE proposal obtained by Weapons Complex Morning Briefing.
Currently, the directors of the nine field offices report directly to the office of the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management, Monica Regalbuto.
There will be no firings, salary cuts or demotions for Environmental Management employees if the proposed reorganization — the second since 2014 years for the agency’s nuclear-cleanup office — goes into effect, according to the 12-page presentation dated May 26.
DOE delivered the proposal May 18 to the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents federal workers, according to the agency’s slides.
A DOE spokesperson in Washington did not immediately reply to requests for comment about whether the proposal had been finalized, or who the agency wants to lead the proposed Field Operations Office.
