The Department of Energy’s Carlsbad Field Office in New Mexico intends to increase the value of its existing small business Technical Assistance Contract with Navarro Research and Engineering by up to $65 million, the agency said in an online notice Thursday.
The DOE Office of Environmental Management announced the planned sole source modification July 25 in the online System for Awards Management. Navarro started its current contract, valued at $100 million, in July 2021 and the agreement is scheduled to run through June 2029, according to a recent contracts chart.
“The anticipated ordering period remains the same as the original award,” DOE said in a document accompanying the online notice.
The contract involves technical help for the Carlsbad Field Office, which oversees the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, which is the nation’s only deep geologic repository for defense-related transuranic waste. Neither the online notice or the accompanying document detailed the reason for the increased value.
The work is limited to companies with 1,000 or fewer employees.
Navarro won the Carlsbad technical assistance contract in 2021, selected over five other bidders.
