The Department of Energy said in a Nov. 18 posting there will be a 120-day transition period for the winner of the potential $45-billion Integrated Tank Disposition Contract, at the Hanford Site in Washington state, to take over from the existing contractors.
The final Request for Proposals issued last month included some incorrect references to a 90-day transition period, The DOE Office of Environmental Management said in a Nov. 18 response to questions on the mega dollar procurement.
There were 44 questions filed from prospective bidders on the massive contract. As is its standard practice, DOE posts the potential borders’ questions, and the agency’s answers, without identifying the parties who made the inquiry.
The DOE cleanup office also agreed to increase the maximum allowed pages for resumes to six rather than four, after one commenter said the change would help blunt “a certain ‘incumbent’s advantage’ that is natural and unavoidable.”
While DOE agreed to grant that modification, it declined to extend the current proposal deadline by one day to Dec. 21. Because Dec. 20 is a Monday, “which generally means an upload on Sunday,” one commenter said. “The FedConnect help desk is not open on Sunday. … Moving the submittal to Tuesday – Friday allows access to the help desk if there are any issues on uploading the documents,” the unidentified commenter said.
The DOE was evidently unmoved by this plea. The due date remains Monday Dec. 20, DOE replied.
The mammoth procurement melds tank management work held by an Amentum-Atkins team, Washington River Protection Solutions, with operation of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant being built by Bechtel.
