DOE Offering CO2 Sequestration Research Experience

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy is accepting applications for its Research Experience in Carbon Sequestration (RECS) program. The program is open to early career professionals, along with doctoral or master’s students, with backgrounds in geology, chemistry, hydrology, physics, engineering, climate science, and related fields. This year’s program is scheduled for June 12-20 in Birmingham, Ala., and is sponsored by Southern Co. and the Southeast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership.

Accepted applicants will gain hands-on field experience designing a carbon storage pilot project, modeling CO2 injection and subsurface fluid flow, and analyzing capture technologies through classroom instruction with group exercises and nine different site, field, and laboratory activities.

International applicants are welcome. Enrollment is limited to 30. The deadline to apply is May 13.
