DOE, NNSA CONFIRMATION HEARINGS LEAD BUSY WEEK ON CAPITOL HILL

It is shaping up to be a busy week for Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration officials on Capitol Hill, highlighted by a pair of confirmation hearings for key Administration officials. At 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Beth Robinson, the Obama Administration’s nominee to be Under Secretary of Energy for Management and Performance, will appear before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, while retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz will appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for his confirmation hearing as the administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Also this week, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry and Rep. Adam Schiff are hosting a forum on nuclear weapons policy titled “Debating the Future of Nuclear Weapons: A Panel Discussion.” The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Capitol Visitors Center.
 
A handful of Pentagon officials will also appear around Washington on Tuesday, with Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs Madelyn Creedon speaking on “Space and National Security” at the Stimson Center at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stimson Center. Air Force Global Strike Command chief Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center chief Maj. Gen. Sandra Finan, and Air Force Assistant Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration Maj. Gen. Garrett Harencak will also take part in a “Nuclear Enterprise Panel” at the Air Force Association’s Air and Space Conference at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
