Following the ascension of Julio Friedmann to the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary within the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy, David Mohler has been appointed to fill the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Clean Coal and Carbon Management. Mohler most recently served as vice president and chief technology officer for Duke Energy. "David brings a depth of knowledge to the Department," Assistant Secretary of Energy for Fossil Energy Christopher Smith said in a release this week. "From managing power plants to leading technology development as a senior executive, his experience and expertise is impressive.  We’re fortunate to have him on our Fossil Energy team."

The position Mohler has been tapped to fill was held by Friedmann since his appointment in August 2013. Mohler has served on a number of advisory boards, including the Carnegie Mellon Electric Utility Industry Center and the Electric Power Research Institute’s Research Advisory Committee. He also served on the board of directors of the Asia Clean Energy Innovation Initiative, according to a DOE press release.
