DOE LOOKS TO COOPERATE WITH RUSSIA ON CLEANUP TECHNOLOGY

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy is looking to increase cooperation with Russia on the development of cleanup-related technologies. Earlier this week, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and Sergei Kiriyenko, director general of Russia’s State Corporation for Atomic Energy, signed a “statement of intent” on collaboration on “innovative technologies for environmental restoration and radioactive waste management,” according to a DOE Office of Environmental Management release. The statement was signed on the sidelines of the 56th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference, held in Vienna. “The EM International Program, through continuous engagement with Rosatom International representatives and the DOE-Moscow office, negotiated the agreement and took action on Rosatom’s formal proposal to raise the SOI to the Secretary level for signature,” the DOE release states.
