The Department of Energy is in the final stages of bringing on B&W executive Pam Horning to serve as the new federal project director for the Savannah River Site Salt Waste Processing Facility project, WC Monitor has learned. Horning could start at SRS as early April 1. She would replace Tony Polk, who is set to be moved to the nuclear materials organization at the DOE Savannah River Operations Office. DOE declined to comment on the personnel shift late last week.
WC Monitor first reported last month that DOE was interested in changing project directors for the SWPF, with Horning as a likely candidate. Her previous posts have included Deputy Principal Associate Director at Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC; and Vice President for Operational Assurance at BWX Technologies, among others. The motivation behind the personnel shift appears to be an effort on DOE’s part to help improve relations with contractor Parsons. Poor relations and tensions between the two have been cited in several reviews as contributing to challenges at the SWPF project.
