The Department of Energy this week awarded a $1.5 million contract option to CH2M Hill Constructors, Inc., for the design of a mock test facility for Oak Ridge’s Sludge Processing Facility Buildouts project. This comes after CH2M Hill’s selection in September as the “most highly qualified” contractor in the procurement, allowing contract negotiations to begin for the potential award of several options for the project. “Processing the inventory of 2,000 cubic meters of transuranic sludges is one of our program’s top priorities, and this is the first step in achieving that goal,” DOE Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management Manager Sue Cange said in a statement. “We are pleased that contract negotiations were successful, and we look forward to working with CH2M Hill on this important project.”
This option focuses on design of the mock test facility, which is scheduled for completion by the end of calendar year 2015. Other contract options include construction and operation of the mock test facility and completion of the final design of the Sludge Processing Facility. DOE plans to conduct a separate procurement for a contract to build and operate the facility.
