DOE CONSIDERING AN END TO ID/IQ CLEANUP CONTRACTS

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy is considering bringing to an end its use of Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity cleanup contracts once the two current sets of contracts expire, senior DOE Office of Environmental Management official Jack Surash said yesterday. EM currently has one unrestricted set of national ID/IQ cleanup contracts, which is held by 11 firms; and one set set-aside for small businesses, which is held by 12 firms. Both are set to expire in 2015. “ID/IQ is just one form of a contract vehicle, so we’re looking at our toolbox and do these provide an easier, faster, better solution to getting a task in place?” said Surash, EM’s deputy assistant secretary for acquisition and project management, at this year’s Weapons Complex Monitor Decisionmakers’ Forum in Amelia Island, Fla.

Surash added, “We’re going to be looking at this and if they do not provide a faster, more efficient, better way to get to the finish line, which would be awarding work, then we’re going to step back and look at why we’re exercising ourselves and a bunch of contractors to do this. The last thing we want to do is have a contract vehicle sitting out there that we’re not using. That’s not a good use of resources.”
