DOE cleanup office picks longtime hand to run communications shop

By ExchangeMonitor

Carrie Meyer, acting director of communications for the Department of Energy’s $8-billion Office of Environmental Management, has been promoted to be permanent head of communications and stakeholder engagement, DOE said Tuesday.

Meyer has been with Environmental Management for 17 years, much of it at the largest cleanup property, the Hanford Site in Washington state, DOE said in the release. Meyer has been acting head of the combined communications and stakeholder office since April.  Before her stint at Hanford, she was the acting director for public affairs for the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Overall, Meyer has 30 years of experience in communications, policy development, public affairs and marketing in government and commercial sectors, DOE said. Meyer’s past non-governmental employers included Bechtel, Energy Northwest and BNFL, according to her LinkedIn profile page.

Meyer officially starts the new role effective Sept. 8, according to a DOE spokesperson.
