DOE and State Department held civil nuclear cooperation dialogue in Kazakhstan this week

By ExchangeMonitor

Officials from the Department of Energy and the State Department met with officials from Kazakhstan this week to engage in dialogue on energy security and civil nuclear cooperation, according to a press release from the State Department.

The 2024 U.S.-Kazakhstan Strategic Energy Dialogue took place in Kazakhstan’s capital city, Astana, on July 18. The delegation that met included Department of Energy deputy assistant secretary of the Office of International Affairs Joshua Volz, deputy assistant secretary from the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Sources Kimberly Harrington and a group of U.S. and Kazakh energy and international affairs experts.

The delegation focused on topics of civil nuclear cooperation, energy security, and global nuclear security, the press release said.

The United States signed a 1-2-3 agreement — a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement between two parties — in 1999. This agreement runs through November 2029.
