With no explanation, the Department of Energy abruptly changed the management of the DOE Berkley Site Office late last week. Paul Golan was named acting director, replacing Aundra Richards, who had headed up the Berkley Site Office since 2005. Golan also continues to serve as Director of the DOE SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Site Office. DOE confirmed the management change this week, but declined to provide additional details, including why the change was made and whether Richards continues to work for the Department. The DOE Berkley Site Office, part of the Department’s Office of Science, oversees the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory in California.
