The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board earlier this month closed out a recommendation from 2002 on design, implementation and maintenance of administrative controls, according to an Oct. 17 letter posted last week from DNFSB Chairman Peter Winokur. The original recommendation raised issue with the “lack of rigor and quality assurance” for some administrative controls. In late August, the Department sent a letter to the DNFSB asking it to close out the recommendation, noting that DOE has “performed a series of line management and independent oversight reviews to verify proper [specific administrative controls] implementation,” among other actions. After reviewing the letter, DNFSB has decided to close the recommendation, Winokur wrote.
