The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board this week added three new resident inspectors to monitor safety at Department of Energy sites in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Los Alamos, N.M.
Clinton Jones is a new resident inspector for DOE’s Y-12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) announced Monday.
Jones comes to DNFSB after working for Y-12 management contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security since 2020, where he served as a technical adviser and shift manager. Before Y-12, Jones worked with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission eight years in inspector positions.
Frank Harshman is the other new Y-12/ORNL resident inspector. He also worked as a shift technical adviser at Y-12. Before his time at Y-12, Harshman worked in commercial nuclear power and held jobs in operations and radiation protection, according to a DNFSB press release.
Harshman and Jones join the current resident inspector at DOE’s Tennessee-based nuclear complex, Brandon Weathers, said DNFSB’s executive director of operations Joel Spangenberg, in the personnel announcements.
Finally, Adam Boussouf is a new resident inspector at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, DNFSB said. Previously Boussouf worked three years for the National Nuclear Security Administration as a safety system oversight engineer at the Pantex nuclear weapons plant in Amarillo, Texas. Pre-Pantex, he was a fire protection engineer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Boussouf has also worked as an engineer for a consulting company in Virginia and as an instructor in safety management at the University of Maryland.
Boussouf joins current Los Alamos National Laboratory resident inspectors Jonathan Plaue and David Gutowski. All three of these new DNFSB hires started their new jobs Monday, Spangenberg said.
Resident inspectors help DNFSB monitor safety at DOE defense nuclear facilities, except for naval reactors facilities, participate in safety reviews and act as liaison to nuclear project management, other government agencies and the community.
